Teams are greater than the sum of their parts. High performing teams will always out deliver “superstar” individuals.

No matter what role people play in a team, they all have something to contribute, and they all have a voice in delivery decisions. There is still a role for leadership – but replacing command and control, with orient and support.

This means, in turn, that every EE team member is equally accountable and responsible for the delivery, and must act accordingly.

How we do this:

  • Our teams include our customers – equality starts with them. We may be experts in delivery, but we have the humility to recognise that they are experts in their own business .  However, taking shared responsibility means being brave in gracefully disagreeing with customers; “the client told us to” isn’t a reasonable excuse for doing something which we know is detrimental to their success. Delivering honest, constructive feedback (with empathy and professionalism) is a foundational part of consultancy.

  • A tech lead role on an EE team is a point-of-contact for the customer, and a facilitator of great technology decision-making. We are all experts in our profession and taking autonomy and responsibility away from the team can destroy cohesion within the group and is a recipe for disaster. Collective technical ownership mitigates the dependency on any single individual and increases implicit motivation for all; providing purpose, by allowing autonomy and using/growing mastery.

  • ‘Grown-ups’ is shorthand for the kind of person – the kind of attitude – we look to work alongside. It summarises the responsible, self-disciplined people that exhibit the depth of experience and the personal behaviours required to create high-performing, ego-free teams. We believe adult-to-adult communication and transactions lead to the most effective relationships with others.
